A gentle and quiet spirit

I was recently reading in 1 Peter 3:4 where Peter tells wives this:

" rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."

Peter is instructing the wives on how to be godly, holy help-meets. He says here that an important aspect of that is 'a gentle and quiet spirit'.

Now, I have had the privilage of knowing several women of God who would meet this despcription very well. I am striving for it myself, although I have not nearly reached that point yet. It is always a goal that I keep out in front of me, hoping that one day, when I am older, a young mom will look at me and say, "Yes, she has a 'gentle and quiet spirit'.

God has been convicting me of this in several areas recently. They include :

  • Having more patience with my kids; using every opportunity, whether easy or hard, to instruct and love them.

  • Being more pleasant, loving and caring to my husband. Making a conscious effort to be the encouraging wife that he needs.

  • Being more open to the needs and lives of others; being aware when others are suffering or going through hard times.

These are just a few areas that God has been speaking to me about lately. I think they all fall under the heading of a 'gentle and quiet spirit'. I know though, that as I give more of my life to God, and let His Holy Spirit fill me, that these things will more easily fall into place.

And so I come to the main purpose of this blog. To discuss how we may be godly wives and mothers, all the time seeking to know our Heavenly Father better. Please join in my discussions, and share your views on this topic.

This was really good Jaime & reminded me St. Francis' prayer:
Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.
